So, as you may have known, I have in total 3 piercings at the moment: the two lobes and one helix on my left ear.
I got my two lobes done when I was around 4-5 because my mom took me to this beauty salon area o_O she comes from an era where all girls get lobe piercings when they're young. ._. What if some people don't want piercings when they're older???
I typically don't wear my lobe piercings as much because I got tired of my old pieces, and am looking for the perfect one to wear atm. However, I am sorta grateful that my mom made me get piercings done at that age since I can barely remember the healing process of it. I do remember the pain though (it was done by a piercing gun).
Note: never do a piercing with a piercing gun. It is very damaging to your tissue since it is using the end of your actual earring to stab through the tissue. NEVER do it for a cartilage: it's illegal to do so here.
As I got older, I lost interest in piercings for a while except for this ONE type of piercing: the helix. I have always wanted one for years before deciding to actually get one, since i heard the healing process was the longest and toughest part of getting the piercing. Also, there was always SOMETHING getting in the way of be being able to get one and allowing it to heal properly (aquatics, medical stuff).
I got my helix done around last year in August with a friend at that time, since they were also getting one too. I can never do any needle work alone because I am a total wimp and get really weak when there is a needle having to be inserted into/through my body. It wasn't as painful as I thought it would be...BUT OMGGG when I stepped out of the piercing store, that day HAD TO BE SO WINDY and it made my piercing burnnnnn like crazy. Hated that feeling. I accidentally bumped my ear into a chair by turning my head to the left...yeah, not the greatest feeling.
I had to deal with the pain of not being able to lean on my left ear, having to clean it everyday, being careful when putting on clothes or taking them off. It was annoying af. One time, it got caught when I was putting on my UofT sweater and OMFG my soul left my body that day because that was so painful. I honestly was so scared that I ripped it out or something (THANKFULLY NOT).
To sum it up: the healing process was a pain in the butt, and I definitely regret not getting two of them done all at once instead of just one (always wanted two like how BTS' Jung Kook did his).

Love Jung Kook! He is the maknae (youngest) of the group and he is also the same age as me (97er line). I'm older though, since my birth month is May while his is September. Hopefully we get to meet one day. I want to meet every single one of BTS. ♥
So, zoom to the present.
It has been a year, so the cartilage should be somewhat fully healed. I never took off the captured bead ring EVER. It was always kinda painful when trying to handle my piercing in some way. But I have to take off my cartilage soon because of the doctors and I have been panicking because I have never ever tried to take it off, nor do I know how to.
Captive bead rings are basically held closed by tension. The ends of the hoop connect to the ball by the indents on the ball. If you want to take it out, you have to kind of push the ring free from the indent of the ball.
I googled, watch youtube videos, to no avail. It left me with a sore throbbing helix. Woke up to today with it still being sore too. Prior to that a few hours ago (4am), I went desperate and messaged a piercing store if I could book an appointment and come in for a piercer to remove it for me and replace it with a stud. LUCKILY, they had a spot for me at 4:30pm.
I went to Exotix Studios, located at Queen St W and Spadina in Toronto.
Taking it off was a bit painful...A BIT. But it was really quick, and he switched it to this stud that I chose with the receptionist lady (SHE IS SO GORGEOUS). It was really quick...it was over in about a minute. I chose the titanium one because it has no nickel. It cost $55 in cash.

Definitely will be coming back sometime in a few months or next year for my second cartilage. The staff are really professional and know what they are doing. So friendly too.
This stud should be easy to take off since the piercer stated that I just have to pull it out and that's it, since he bent the stick end part of the stud to go into the cartilage smoothly.
Sometimes I do regret getting this piercing done because THERE WAS JUST NO BENEFITS TO GETTING IT OUTSIDE OF AESTHETICS. It did make me feel cool and edgy, ESPECIALLY after I found out Jung Kook got his done too. I think he did it a few months after. The boy loves piercings. So now I kinda love it.
Second regret is not getting TWO done. The place that I had my piercing done was at Yonge St Tattoos, but sadly they don't do piercings anymore. They now just do tattoos only. They were the ones that recommended me New Tribe and Exotix. They did the piercing for only $30 in cash for rings. If you wanted a stud, it'll be $35. I think it was the summer sale. Regret not getting the stud too.
THAT IS ALL FOR TODAY. I still have my captured bead ring with me in a nice small ziploc bag. I know for sure I'll never wear one ever again. I rather pay the extra for a stud than the rings since I heard the stud allows for faster healing anyways. Maybe my second cartilage experience will be more smoother with a stud. Now I'm just waiting for my friends to go and get it so I can tag along and get mine done too. ALWAYS NEED SUPPORT WHEN IT COMES TO NEEDLES.
Until then!
